Trail work begun in Hay Creek Drainage

We’ve started work in the Hay Creek Drainage, beginning  with a short stretch of the Whitefish Divide Trail and the piece of the Hay Creek Trail west of the bridge at the foot of Hay Lake. We started at the west end because this is where most of the blow-downs hide out (we removed eight of them), posing considerable inconvenience to folks hiking this segment of the Pacific Northwest Trail.

We got Moran Creek Trail opened up yesterday, July 2. It’s a good thing we had a decent-size crew. Aside from the usual brushing out, we had to remove 33 blow-downs, some of them pretty substantial — not as bad as last year’s 54, but still plenty of work.

We were the first up the trail this season, but had at least 10 people come through while we were working.
