Last Saturday’s chainsaw course well-attended, successful

Saturday, May 13, “saw” a very successful chainsaw certification course for 12 attendees, some of whom braved the North Fork Road to drive up from down-valley.  The NorthWest Montana Back Country Horsemen supplied no less than three instructors for the event!

Congratulations are due to all attendees and our deepest thanks to expert instructors Jim Watson, Alan Habel and Rick Mathies.

North Fork Trails arranged for a special early-season First Aid/CPR/AED class to provide  certification to people who needed it prior to attending the upcoming May 13 chainsaw course. Several others signed up, too.

As usual, the event was customized for the North Fork’s unique, off-grid conditions that make local residents the first responders to almost all emergencies. And, as usual, it was a great success. Kudos to instructor Bob Lee who always does a great job covering a lot of material in a straightforward, accessible fashion

The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNT) runs through the North Fork from the Polebridge area westbound along trails 3 and 26 to Mt. Locke where it drops off the Whitefish Divide into the Kootenai National Forest . . .

The U.S. Forest Service is seeking public input regarding a management plan for a 1,200-mile hiking trail that stretches from the Continental Divide to the Pacific Ocean.

The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail starts in Glacier National Park, passes through Northern Idaho and then ends in Olympic National Park in Washington.

While the trail has existed since the 1970s, Congress only approved legislation for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail in 2009, adding it to the National Trails System. Other designated trails include the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail.
